Brazil Hotels Price Comparisons
Brazil is the largest country on the South American continent and the fifth largest country in the world. It is the most populous country in South America. It is known the world over for the extravagant pageant of Carnival in Rio de Janeiro and other cities and its obsession with football.
There is plenty to see and to do in Brazil, ranging from the non-stop bustle of São Paulo to the untouched wilderness of the Amazon rainforest and unique landmarks such as the Iguaçu Falls. The country has a rich heritage of indigenous settlement that pre-dates the first Portugese settlement in the 1500's. The country also had a short period of Dutch occupation in the 1600's. European immigration during the 1800's added further to the mix that has evolved into today's complex and unique Brazilian culture and society. The official language of Brazil is Portuguese which is spoken by the entire population. English is not widely spoken or understood except for a few tourist areas, so don't expect shop assistants, bus drivers or cabbies to understand English. Rio de Janeiro is the most instantly recognised Brazilian city, world famous for Carnival and that huge statue of an open-armed Jesus that sits on top of Corcovado Hill. Brasília, an architectural spectacle, was custom designed to be the country's capital and administrative center. Nature lovers are most likely to be drawn to the many attractions of the Amazon regions.
