Buenos Aires - capital city of Argentina. Population of approx. 3 million.
The city is situated on the estuary of the Rio de la Plata on the south eastern coast of South America. The main language spoken in the city is a combined Spanish dialect. However, English is widely used. During the past ten years, there has been a marked increase in tourism. A variety of different types of historical architecture exists in and around the city, especially in the churches and places of worship, which show the influences from the European countries of Spain, France and Italy that are all an integral part of Argentina's history. Buenos Aires has a vast number of fine museums, art galleries, book stores and public libraries as well as delightful parks, gardens and a world famous zoo. Opera, concerts, theatre performances, orchestral and choral productions and rock concerts take place regularly throughout the year. Shopping malls, markets and fairs will appeal to shoppers looking for local souvenirs. The city is serviced by an international airport. Suburban rail, buses or the metro network provide inexpensive and convenient transport in and around Buenos Aires. Due to the extremely chaotic traffic in the city, car hire is not recommended. Taxis are plentiful and cheap. There is an abundant variety of street kiosks, eateries and restaurants to suit every budget as well as numerous expensive and luxurious restaurants. Many places serve Spanish and Italian dishes, but there are also those who serve other international cuisines. The city offers plenty of nightlife in the clubs and bars. Accommodation ranges from budget hostels, to mid range hotels up to the expensive and luxurious hotels.
