Casablanca - a major port city in Morocco. Population of approx. 4 million.

The largest city and chief port of Morocco, this bustling North African metropolis it is the business and economic centre of the country. It is the home port of the Royal Moroccan Navy and is located on the Atlantic Ocean seaboard.

The area was originally inhabited by Berber fishermen as far back as the 7th century BC, but subsequently came under the rule of numerous empires including the Phonenicians, Romans, Portuguese, Spanish and French. Arabic and French are now the main languages spoken in Morocco.

There are plenty of things to see and do in Casablanca. The construction of resorts and entertainment complexes have all increased the developing tourism industry. Mosques such as the King Hassan II Mosque with its feature of the tallest minaret and others are well worth seeing.

Tiled floors, intricate wrought iron work and wooden carvings adorn many of the buildings. This progressive city also offers bargain designer label clothing, traditional Moroccan goods of leather and pottery, a bustling nightlife and numerous restaurants with a variety of menus.
