Indonesian Hotels Price Comparisons
This diverse, equatorial nation of over 18,000 islands is deservedly known as the sleeping giant of south east Asia. Over 6,000 of the islands are inhabited and the nation's population exceeds 230 million people, making Indonesia the fourth most populous country in the world. Indonesia has the world's largest Muslim population.
Despite the country possessing incredible natural resources in timber, gas and oil, the vast majority of Indonesians live in poverty. In the rural areas, village life consists of subsistence farming for most families. The capital city is Jakarta, with a population of 10 million and located at the north western end of the island of Java. The city is a vast, hot, urban sprawl where the contrast between the extreme wealth of Indonesia's elite and the confronting poverty of the poor is a harsh reality. Only the severely mentally challenged visitor would attempt to drive in Jakarta where the roads are a sea of two wheel scooters and three wheel scooter taxis. Many visitors to Indonesia are on their way to Bali, one of the world's top tourist destinations. The island offers world-class surfing and diving, numerous cultural and historical attractions and a wide range of accommodation. Bali has something to offer a wide cross section of visitors, ranging from back-packers through to the ultra-rich.
