The "Land of the Rising Sun", Japan is a country of numerous islands that holds dear to its past history and traditions while at the same time embracing modern technology and innovation. This festival dates back to the 7th century. A lot of Japanese history and culture dates back to times that are hard to comprehend by most westerners whose culture and history is far more recent.

Western travellers will find Japan is quite an easy country to get around. The initial shock of being in a totally foreign land soon fades once you realize that essential signage is usually multi-lingual, the people are very courteous and helpful, the local environment is largely westernized and the transport network is very good.
