This city is the economic and business centre of Malaysia. Originally a tin mining village founded in 1857, it has grown in recent times to become a bustling, ethnically diverse city displaying an architectural mixture of old colonial, Asian and Malay Islamic influences and modern western styles. Kuala Lumpur is a food lovers paradise offering a variety of Malaysian, Chinese (especially Cantonese), Indian, Korean, Arab, Middle Eastern and international cuisine available in restaurants, food courts and street-side food stalls. World renowned for its cheap five star accommodation, Kuala Lumpur also caters for budget travellers. The city has several good theatres, museums and performing arts complexes as well as a vibrant nightlife and venues for sporting opportunities.
