Los Angeles - major city of California, USA. Population of approx. 17 million

Located on the Pacific Ocean coast in Southern California, Los Angeles dates from Spanish settlements between 1765 and 1771 although native Indian populations had lived in the region long before the Spaniards arrived. The area has a Mediterranean climate of warm to hot summers, mild winters and sunny to warm days in spring with rainfalls mainly in spring.

Serviced by several major airports, LA is also easily accessed by road, Amtrak or by bus. The best way to get around Los Angeles is by car. Visitors are advised to carry a detailed road map or have access to a GPS navigation system. There is also a small metro rail, a bus system and taxis.

There is plenty to see and do in Los Angeles. For the young or the young at heart there are numerous theme parks, street parades, and musical festivals. For a bit of culture there is concerts, opera, museums, art galleries, churches and historical areas displaying an awesome array of architecture.

For shoppers there are mega shopping malls throughout the city and boulevards dedicated to specialty boutiques. Of course, there are the wonderful beaches with water sports galore.  For sports enthusiasts, numerous venues offer the chance to watch a professional or major league baseball, football, basketball, ice hockey or soccer games. For something a bit different, wander through the Flower District or the Arts District.

With such a diverse population, there are a huge number of eateries scattered throughout the city offering traditional American or international menus. In addition, there are cafes offering organic or vegetarian foods, taco trucks or splurge in a specialty restaurant of fine dining.
