Sweden At A Glance

Sweden is the largest of the Nordic countries of Northern Europe and has a population of about 9.5 million. Her neighbours are Norway, Finland and Denmark. The capital is Stockholm, a city of some fourteen islands connected by fifty bridges. This beautiful capital has a picturesque setting that makes the city unique and some of its historic buildings date from the 15th century. The areas surrounding Stockholm are a maze of waterways and inlets influenced by the nearby Baltic Sea. Stockholm for the visitor is all about palaces, historic medieval town squares, open air museums and the stunning natural beauty of the archipelago on which the city stands.

Elsewhere in Sweden, there is an extensive railway network. Most major lines are operated SJ and tickets can be purchased online from their website. An efficient bus service also connects the major Swedish towns and cities.
