Switzerland Hotels Price Comparisons
This small landlocked European country has a population of approximately 7.5 million and is synonymous with mountains, neutrality and banking. Being such a small country, the influence of her neighbours has spilled over the borders, giving Switzerland a mix of different cultures.
There is a beer loving German influenced region in the north, the French influence is evident in the west, the south is Italian and it's just the small central region that is traditionally Swiss. There is no official Swiss language. The spoken languages are Swiss-German in the centre and north, French in the west and Italian in the south. Switzerland is not a member of the European Union and the official unit of currency is the Swiss Franc. It is a prosperous country with a stable economy, a highly skilled work force and a rate of unemployment less than half the European average. Switzerland's neutrality was respected in both the world wars and the country did not suffer the ravages of war like her neighbours. As a consequence, her places of historic interest all remained intact and those sites are now some of Europe's most popular tourist destinations. Cities such as Zurich, Geneva, Berne (the capital), Lugano, Lausanne, Basel and Lucerne are all unique in their own way and offer visitors a mix of preserved history sitting side by side with modern architecture, development and technology. Switzerland's international airports are in Zurich, Geneva and Basel, with smaller airports in Lugano and Berne. Train services link out across all of Europe. The transportation system within Switzerland is deservedly famous for swift, punctual trains, spotless buses, various mountain transport systems and all integrated into a single transit network. Lodgings are plentiful throughout Switzerland with hotels, resorts and lodges available in all the cities and towns. Hotel rates can be quite expensive, especially in the popular ski resort towns.
