Getting The Most From The Comparison Tool

Entering your dates and a city name is just the start. Major cities will show hundreds of hotels, so the numbers have to be trimmed down to just those which exactly match your needs. That is where you find the real power of the search engine ... the Refine Your Search tools. The following example shows how to use those tools to find exactly the right hotel.

Example: Let's say you need a hotel that:

is located within 1 km of Times Square in New York
is rated 4 star or better
has a price of not more than US$200 per night
has a business center and high speed internet

Start by running the search with your dates and New York as the city. Once the results are available, you can start to refine them to your exact needs as per the illustration.

1) Select an acceptable distance from a landmark... and
2) Select the landmark from the drop-down list
3) Select the currency you want to see on the hotels
4) Click and drag the price bars to set your price range
5) Select the star rating to control the quality
6) Select the hotel features that you will require.

For the above example, a total of 638 New York hotels was refined to a selection of 5 that exactly matched the criteria.. and it took less than a minute! The hotels will be sorted by popularity. Use the Sort options for a different sorted order.

The next step is to decide on your preferred hotel. Use the hotel features and guest reviews to help with making a selection. Then click on either the select or details link.

Now you'll see all the booking sites that can process a reservation and the prices that each one will charge. NOTE: It's important to click on the select link as it takes you to the merchant's website where you can view photos, check room types, check hotel features in greater detail, see the terms and conditions etc etc.

You may not be ready to make a reservation but you'll need to see the details for future planning.
