Tokyo Hotels Price Comparisons
Tokyo - capital city of Japan. Population of approx. 12 million.
Originally a small fishing village more than 400 years ago, the Tokyo of today is a bustling, modern metropolis located on the eastern side of the main island of Honshu. This is where visitors will find the Imperial Palace (home of the Japanese Imperial Family), the seat of government as well as the headquarters of numerous international companies of investment banks, insurance, transportation, publishing and broadcasting industries. Although regarded by many as a concrete jungle, there are numerous parks, gardens and shinto shrines scattered throughout the city providing a welcome relief from the hustle, bustle and noise. Summer temperatures range from 20 - 30 degrees C and winters are mild. Tokyo has an extensive rail transit system which is clean and efficient, supported by buses, monorails and trams. Taxis are expensive unless travelling with a couple of companions and renting a car is not economical for the average visitor. There is something for everyone to see and do in and around the city. Tokyo is a shoppers paradise, renowned for its cosmetic industry, fashion trends, large electronic industry, souvenirs, antiques, pottery and specialty items. The city is home to some of the best museums and art galleries to be found anywhere in Japan. There are theme parks for the young and young at heart, theatres for the performing arts, symphony orchestras and music festivals that are held throughout the year. Enjoy delicious, unique local food from the many restaurants or food halls or splurge on some fine dining at some of the many restaurants which offer menus of international cuisine. Party on in a karoke bar or enjoy the nightlife the city has to offer. Tokyo is well respected for its great hotel services and there is a wide variety of accommodation available throughout the city ranging from low priced budget to very expensive. Many western style hotels have English speaking staff.
