United Kingdom Hotels Price Comparisons
The four constituent nations that make up the United Kingdom are England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. The Isle of Man and the Channel Islands are independent and, technically, are not part of the kingdom. These four nations are amongst the most popular tourist destinations in the world and between them, attract approximately 32 million visitors each year who pump 17 billion Euro into the UK economy.
Britannia has not ruled the waves for a very long time, but the influence these small islands has had in shaping much of the world is quite amazing. Language, culture, education, music, history are all part of the mix currently found in many countries. The UK is steeped in history that pre-dates the Roman invasions and despite the ravages of megalomaniac kings, plagues, wars and famine, much of that early history is still evident. The modern UK is a culturally diverse mix of both native and immigrant cultures which is most evident in the larger cities. The Caribbean and Pakistan are two of the major countries of origin of the post war influx of immigrants to the UK. Many of the UK cities have a working class history and much of the inner city houses, streets and infrastructure bear testimony to that past. London is undoubtedly the jewel in the UK tourism crown. This giant, sprawling metropolis sits astride the Thames River and is unrivalled for its history and influence. Every corner in London leads to another place steeped in history. Many of the city sights are spectacular and awe inspiring and the city is a wonderful blend of modern progress and preserved heritage.
