Venezuela At A Glance

Venezuela sits at the top of the South American continent, flanked by the Caribbean Sea and the North Atlantic Ocean, plus land borders with Colombia to the west, Guyana to the east and Brazil to the south. Venezuela is a major oil exporter and also has huge reserves of natural gas. The country is ecologically very diverse with more than 40% of its territory taken up by protected areas.

The official language of Venezuela is Spanish, accompanied by various indian dialects usually only heard in the Amazon region. English is not commonly spoken or understood, even in the cities.

Caracas is both the capital and the largest city in Venezuela, known as one of South America's most cosmopolitan and contemporary cities. It offers visitors lots of local attractions, theaters, shopping malls, museums and art galleries.
